The prerequisite for using IKS is a full adaptation of Kanban principles. Afterwards, IKS can be integrated into every production and logistic area of a company to support the manual Kanban processes.
But also if a company starts implementing a Kanban system IKS can be used. By using the IKS Kanban Manager the loops can be designed and the pre-defined Kanban cards can be printed in an easy way. So the company can use a classical manual Kanban system at the beginning and is prepared for the next step: electronic Kanban.
In the most cases, IKS is being used in:
- All production processes
- Assembly
- Connection of central storages
- Connection of external suppliers and customers
Typical IKS customers have one or more of the following attributes:
- Serial production
- Standard products
- Large number of standard products and/or their variations
- Large number of Kanban loops and Kanban cards
- Long distances between supplier and customer
- Large number of external suppliers to be connected
- Several plants need to be connected in the supply chain
- Strong commitment to Lean Manufacturing
